Taryn Elizabeth

Hello there, I'm a sophomore student at a local Liberal Arts College, and I'm fascinated by anything and everything. I read like it's going out of style. For my view on the world, one could think of me as a liberal humanist. I believe humans are amazing, wonderful beings capable of almost anything short of infinity.

It really saddens me when people use religion, science, tradition, etc., as an excuse not to achieve their full potential. What would the world be like now had Einstein or DaVinci not broken a few rules here and there? Personal weakness is just an excuse, and excuses are man's most debilitating weakness.

But I will not argue anyone who thinks otherwise. I fully understand and accept one's right to opinion, and encourage only thought, not law. The rest is up to you.

Philosophy aside, my name is Taryn, and I'm studying for a BA in English, which I hope to someday upgrade to a MA. My favorite magazine is National Geographic, and my favorite book is Jane Eyre. My intellectual specialty, as a would-be fantasy writer is anything mythological, legendary, fae, occult, and/or wyrd. My poem "The Incarnate" was published in the online magazine "The Exquisite Corpse."

My biggest love and flaw is critique. I am a very harsh, but very sincere, art and writing critic. I have been trying to write this one novel for something like four years now, but I just keep rewriting it. If I complement your work, be assured that it is well, well above average! My second love is history, and I melt over foreign culture. I speak conversational Italiano and some Japanese. I'm fascinated by politcs as well, especially ancient politics, and warfare, especially medieval.

True fact: During Pirates of the Caribbean 3, I almost cried I was so happy when they used the real pirate Blackbeard's greatest attack in one of the main battle scenes.

For sports, I'm an award-winning archer and love Irish Step Dancing. I've recently gotten myself tangled up in opera, especially Maria Callas (my soprano idol) and anything by Mozart. I love the arts, was in musical theater for a few years, and my favorite traditional artist is Georgia O'Keefe. My favorite more contemporary artist is Amy Brown.

As varied as my personal tastes are my career choices. I've worked in a pizzaria, as a TV Studio Production Assistant, a Sales Associate at a plus-size store, and currently as an Assistant Manager at Vitamin World. I love animals, especially snakes and lizards, and currently have two cats and a dog. I'm horrified of spiders and needles.

I watch a lot of science/history specials, ranging anywhere from "why the pyramids were built" to "how to build a trebuchet" to things like "the lizzie bordon story." I have many gay and lesbian friends and so I greatly appreciate gay culture, especially movies like "Loving Annabelle," which almost made me cry. And yes, I do watch anime, particularly InuYasha, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Ghost in the Shell, Ergo Proxy, and anything by Miyazaki, whose work is brilliant.

I've always loved learning and wish I could stay in college forever. I love my friends more than anything, even most of my family, and dream of returning to Ireland, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Thanks for reading, feel free to drop me a line sometime. Peace ^_^
